Dear Students and Lecturers of STIINTE,
Please find below some information regarding the local transport and other
practical issues. A copy of this message is posted at
http://iss30.nipne.ro/gpsm/ws_ro/stiinte/info.html
The workshop is organized in the Carpathian Mountains at the hotel "Cota
1400", http://www.hotel-cota1400.ro, some 8 km uphill from the Sinaia
resort and 120 km North from Bucharest. The complete coordinates of the
hotel are: str. Drumul Cotei, 106100 Sinaia, jud. Prahova, Romania,
Phone: (+40) 244 314990, Fax: (+40) 244 314 974, Email:
office@hotelcota1400.ro. For information about Sinaia you can visit
http://www.montania.ro/en_Sinaia_info.htm. A map of Sinaia is available at
http://www.hartionline.ro/sinaia/harta/0.html
In case you arrive by plain: we will pick you up from the Bucharest Henri
Coanda international airport (Otopeni) and transfer to the hotel. Please
inform us by an email to stiinte@venus.nipne.ro about the precise time of
your arrival and details on your flight (airline and number). At the
airport please look for the STIINTE tag in the arrival hall.
In case you arrive by train: we will pick you up from the Sinaia railway
station and transfer to the hotel; look for the STIINTE tag in front of
the Information desk. Please send us an email with the time of your
arrival and details about your train. You may find useful information
about local train connections at: http://www.infofer.ro. In case you plan
to travel on your own, the connection to Sinaia is very good (every hour
or so).
Other practical information that might be of interest:
- the hotel "Cota 1400" may be reached by taxi or cable car. The cable car
station is located at about 15 minutes from the railway station and it
closes around 16:00.
- Bucharest North Station can be reached from the airport by the
express bus 783 to "Piata Victoriei" (30 min to 1 h depending on the
traffic), and then the subway to the "Gara de Nord" (5 min).
For those wishing to spend some additional days in Romania, prior or after
the meeting, a few suggestions on hotel booking, attractions, and events
are included in the 'Links' section of the STIMM-2 web site,
http://iss30.nipne.ro/gpsm/ws_ro/stimm2/links.html
The local currency in Romania is "Leu" (plural "Lei"). The exchange rate
is about 3.2 Lei for 1 EUR and 2.4 Lei for 1 USD. For various transactions
and money exchange, we strongly recommend that you contact only authorized
institutions, such as banks or exchange offices. Foreign exchange
facilities, as well as cash dispencers, are available at the Henri Coanda
(Otopeni) International Airport, in the railway stations, and in several
places in Sinaia, but not up at the hotel or in the close neighborhood.
Bank opening hours: Monday to Friday: 9:00 to 17:00, closed on weekends.
The major credit cards are generally accepted.
Electricity is supplied at 230 Volts / 50 Hz.
In case of any problem you can contact the LOC at the following cell
numbers: +40 721 *** *** (Octav Marghitu), +40 723 *** *** (Marius Echim)
and +40 723 *** *** (Adrian Blagau). Feel free to contact us for any
question regarding the workshop, information or help with booking extra
days, sightseeing attractions in Romania, or any specific needs.

you next week.
Best regards,
