A team of researchers from the Space Plasma and Magnetometry Laboratory (Maximilian Teodorescu, Gabriel Voitcu, Costel Munteanu, Eliza Teodorescu and Catalin Negrea) observed the transit of Mercury in front of the Sun on November 11, 2019. On the Institute of Space Science’s rooftop, a 150 mm refractor was mounted in order to acquire images in two wavelengths (in white-light and H-alpha). The observation conditions, although not perfect due to the low altitude of the Sun, allowed for good views of the event, including the ingress of Mercury on the chromosphere.
In addition to the actual observations, the team had the pleasure of engaging in solar observations with other researchers of the institute, and a few children. More about the event here.
