Solar - Terrestrial Interactions
from Microscale to Global Models
September 6-10, 2005

Dear Colleagues,

This announcement includes last minute details concerning the workshop "Solar Terrestrial Interactions from Microscale to global Models" to be held next week in Sinaia, Romania.

We are happy to announce that the project devoted to organizing this meeting has been selected for funding by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research. Thanks to this additional budget we will be able to support the full accommodation for all our guests, which includes room and meals at the restaurant of the Cota 1400 hotel. If any of you has special needs (like vegetarian) please let us know when you register.

Bus shuttles will take care of your transport from the Bucuresti/Otopeni - Henri Coanda airport to Sinaia according to your travel schedules. We will send you "personalized" messages with more detailed information.

The workshop web site was updated. You can have a look at the final program and all submitted abstracts at http://iss30.nipne.ro/maglab/ws_ro.

Both a video and an overhead projector will be available for presentations. The local voltage is 220 V / 50 Hz. A (grounded) power outlet is shown in the attachment.

Internet connection will be freely available in the conference room. For international calls you can use the phone in your room or mobile phones.

The weather forecast is rather good for next week. Please keep in mind, however, that Sinaia is a mountain resort and the hotel is located at 1400 meters altitude. Sudden changes of weather may occur, with showers and temperature drops, please be prepared.

The local currency is called Leu (the Romanian for 'lion') - plural is Lei. IMPORTANT NOTICE: at the beginning of July, the new Leu (RON), equal to 10,000 old Lei (ROL), was introduced. For two years or so they will be used in parallel. The old and new bills have very similar design (e.g. 1 new Leu and 10000 old Lei, 5 new Lei and 50000 old Lei etc). One has to take care not to pay new Lei when old Lei are requested - which can happen, because people are still used to the old currency. In general the prices are given both in the old and new currency. Note also that the new bills are not yet very widespread and you will most often get old bills (big numbers). The exchange rate is about 3.5 RON or 35000 ROL for 1 EUR.

We do not advise you to change money at the airport because, as well known, the exchange rate is quite poor. There are several exchange and bank offices in Sinaia or Bucharest. In addition, cash dispensers are available, including two at the airport, where you can get Lei. The major credit cards are accepted in most places you might want to visit.

The complete coordinates of the hotel "Cota 1400" are: str. Drumul Cotei, 106100 Sinaia, jud. Prahova, Romania Phone: (+4)0 244 314990 Fax: (+4)0 244 314 970 Email: office@hotelcota1400.ro

In case of any problem you can contact the LOC at the following cell numbers: ****** (Octav Marghitu), ****** (Marius Echim) and ****** (Adrian Blagau).

We wish you a nice travel to Romania and we are looking forward to welcome you next week.

Best regards,
